Biomass Plant - Not Here, Thank You!

Permission unlikely after public outcry

Plans for a Biomass plant in Swindon looked like being thrown out at the first hurdle after a big protest from local residents and councillors.

Swindon North MP Justin Tomlinson also voiced his opposition after Pure Green Energy Limited applied to build a wood burning unit and three chimneys on the former Square D factory in Cheney Manor.

The company was attracted to the site by Forward Swindon, the Council arm responsible for encouraging Swindon's economic growth.

Swindon Biomass Plant Protest

Grave concerns were voiced at a packed meeting at the Council Offices about possible health risks from air pollution and the plant's close proximity to schools and residential areas.

A decision will be made at a Council Planning Meeting on Tuesday 20 July.
